Tyson Foods announced on April 15 a $208 million poultry rendering plant in Hanceville, Alabama, to replace a facility lost to a July 2021 fire. The plant is expected to be completed in mid-2023 and will retain 124 employees.
Rendering capacity converts poultry by-products into meat meal and fat for feed, so restoring Hanceville's roughly 750,000 tons of annual output gradually adds protein meal supply in the Southeast, a modest bearish factor for meat meal over time.
