VnDirect Securities forecasts the US dollar/Vietnamese dong rate will stay within 22,600-23,050 in 2022 despite the Federal Reserve's tightening. The broker expects the dong to fluctuate within about 1% of the dollar.
It also expects a current account surplus of 1.9% of GDP and reserves rising to $122.5 billion by end-2022.
A stable dong limits currency-driven swings in Vietnam's import costs for feed ingredients such as soybean meal and corn. Weaker global growth could reduce demand for Vietnamese exports, but the effect on grain and feed prices is small.
