American Patriot Container Transport is preparing to launch a container-on-vessel service linking St. Louis to the lower Mississippi and on to global destinations. The service uses a new Gulf Coast gateway terminal in Plaquemines Parish and purpose-built vessels.
Lower-cost all-water container routing could modestly ease Midwest export logistics for shippers. Any effect on feed grain freight costs would be gradual and minor.
