Feeder cattle closed lower on Monday as higher feed prices and weak buyer demand weighed on the market. August feeder cattle fell $2.35 to 172.50 and August live cattle dropped $0.50 to 133.37.
Wheat and corn futures were mixed, with September corn up 16 cents.
Lack of demand combined with higher feed costs pressures feeder cattle prices and reduces feedlot margins, which can weigh on demand for corn and feed ingredients.
