Peru has capped anchovy catches destined for direct human consumption at 150,000 tonnes for 2022. The limit applies to the human-food segment, while most anchoveta catch is still directed to fishmeal and fish oil.
Restricting human-grade anchovy volumes keeps more raw material available for fishmeal production, which supports fishmeal supply for feed buyers. The effect on fishmeal prices is modest since the cap is a small share of total landings.
