The National Hog Farmer reported that Kent Swisher testified last week before the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis on the sustainability benefits of rendering. Swisher said rendering recycles more than 56 billion pounds of meat and bone leftovers annually and reduces greenhouse gas emissions from alternative disposal.
Rendering's climate benefits could support continued use of meat and bone meal in feed if policymakers weigh them. Any price effect would depend on future policy decisions rather than this testimony.
