Kent Swisher, president and CEO of the North American Renderers Association, testified on July 15 before the U.S. House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis about the sustainability benefits of rendering. He said renderers recycle more than 56 billion pounds of meat and bone leftovers a year, which prevents alternative disposal methods that generate greenhouse gas emissions.
The testimony supports rendering's role in climate policy, which could shape future demand for meat and bone meal and rendered fats used in feed. The effect on prices is likely limited for now.
