CoBank's Knowledge Exchange reported a very strong second quarter for the U.S. ethanol industry, with production averaging 15.5 billion gallons annualized. Operating margins reached 33 cents per gallon, well above the five-year average of 22 cents, driven by a 16% rise in fuel ethanol prices.
Ethanol exports for the first four months were up 67%.
Strong ethanol margins and export demand support continued ethanol output, which keeps corn grind and DDGS supply firm for feed buyers. The report shows little sign of demand destruction despite high gasoline prices.
