The Grain Industry Association of Western Australia reported global barley harvested area fell 11.5% between 2000-2004 and 2015-2019, while other grains and oilseeds rose 13%. Australia has exported over 5.8 million tonnes of barley so far this year and expects more than 8.3 million by year end.
Structurally shrinking global barley area supports barley prices over the longer term, though strong Australian export flows add near-term supply.
