Australia exported 482,840t of feed barley, 52,682t of malting barley and 266,101t of sorghum in June, according to ABS data. Feed barley shipments fell 18% from May to their lowest since October.
Saudi Arabia, Japan and Vietnam were the main barley buyers, and China took most of the sorghum.
Dwindling Australian supplies and competition from Black Sea and EU new-crop sales are reducing Australian export share. This leaves Australian barley and sorghum less competitive in key Asian and Middle Eastern markets.
