The IFA said growers accepted a drying surcharge for Boortmalt suppliers, cut from €15/t to €12.50/t, because gas and electricity costs for grain drying have risen sharply since the war in Ukraine. The FOB Creil malting barley market has traded between €358 and €475/t since April, with a rolling average of €415/t.
The surcharge lowers the effective price growers receive for wet barley, so it reflects higher energy costs passing through the supply chain. It has little direct effect on feed barley prices.
