The EIA benchmark US retail diesel price fell to $4.964 a gallon, back below $5 after a brief rise above that level in late August. It was the 13th decline in 14 weeks and is down 84.6 cents from its June 20 all-time high of $5.81.
The falling benchmark lowers fuel surcharges for trucking and reduces delivered feed costs. Futures weakness is feeding through to retail with a lag.
