US table-egg production in July 2022 was 640.7 million dozen, 3.4% below a year earlier, as avian flu cut the laying flock by 5.2%. The Mintec egg price reached 16.6 US cents per egg on September 14, up 19.1% month on month and 120.4% year on year.
Producers are expected to expand output in Q3 and Q4, but 2022 production is forecast 2.3% lower.
Reduced layer numbers keep egg supply tight and prices elevated, which raises costs for buyers of egg-derived and competing protein products. Recovery depends on flock rebuilding, so prices are likely to stay high through the rest of the year.
