Oklahoma State extension economist Derrell Peel reports feeder cattle volumes were up 19.7% year over year from mid-July to mid-October, then down 6.1% in the last two weeks. Auction prices for 480-pound steers reached $190.08/cwt for the week ending October 28, after rising since mid-October.
Smaller fall feeder supplies and recovering auction prices support feeder cattle values, which in turn affects feedlot input costs for buyers.
