The U.S. House voted 290-137 to pass a resolution blocking a national rail strike that was set for as early as December 9. A separate bill granting seven days of paid sick leave to rail workers passed 221-207.
The package now moves to the Senate, where the sick-leave provision faces a harder path.
Passage in the House lowers the probability of a rail stoppage that would disrupt grain and fertilizer freight. The remaining Senate uncertainty keeps some freight risk premium in the market.
