Mexico's president's office said Mexico would accept annual permits to import U.S. feed corn for livestock beyond the planned GMO ban, while refusing any deal on white corn for human consumption. Delay would apply to yellow corn while studies assess its safety.
The ban is currently set for January 2024.
An annual exemption for yellow feed corn would protect most of the roughly 17 million tons Mexico buys from the U.S., easing a major export risk. Exclusion of white corn leaves a limited but real hit to U.S. food-corn flows.
