Mosaic has temporarily curtailed potash production at its Colonsay mine in Saskatchewan after weaker demand pushed fertilizer prices lower across North America. The site had been running at 1.3 million tonnes per year and plans to expand to 2 million by the end of next year.
Underground work continues ahead of mill restarts in early 2023.
Farmers skipping or cutting potash applications have left a supply glut, so the curtailment is a response to weak demand rather than a supply shock. Potash prices are likely to stay under pressure until demand recovers.
