Morocco's phosphate and derivative exports reached $10.6 billion (MAD 108 billion) by the end of November 2022, up 54.8% year on year, according to the DEPF economic report for January 2023. Phosphate rock sales abroad were $1.2 billion, while derivative shipments rose 54.7%.
Extractive-sector turnover fell 7.7% over the first nine months of 2022 as phosphate rock output declined.
The strong export value reflects high phosphate fertiliser prices, which raise input costs for feed-grain and oilseed producers. The falling rock output points to tighter Moroccan supply, which supports phosphate prices.
