USDA's chief economist projected wholesale egg prices will fall 26.8% in 2023 at the Agricultural Outlook Forum, with production rising 4% to 9.4 billion dozen and the laying flock partly recovering. The forecast assumes no renewed bird flu outbreaks, and USDA reported a Pennsylvania broiler farm outbreak of almost 100,000 birds.
A projected recovery in layer numbers and egg output points to lower egg prices, while continued HPAI outbreaks in poultry would undercut that outlook.
