The South Korean won closed at 1,322.8 per dollar on Thursday, down 2.9 won, and touched 1,332.3 at one point, its weakest level in about five months. The won is falling even as the dollar index declines, which experts attribute to Korea's trade deficit and weaker economic fundamentals.
A weaker won raises the local-currency cost of dollar-priced feed imports such as corn, soybean meal and DDGS, which can squeeze Korean feed buyers' margins even if world grain prices are steady.
