India's Central Government removed the 20% export duty on rice in the husk of seed quality, effective April 11, 2023, via a customs notification. The change amends the October 2022 customs notification that set export duties on paddy.
Removing the export duty on seed-quality paddy eases exports of that grade and may modestly lift international rice trade flows, a mildly bearish signal for global rice prices.
After 100 past bearish policy events, RICE moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (49% higher; middle half -1.7% to +1.6%), and +0.1% over 20.
