Peru's anchovy fishing season for the north-central zone is expected to open after Easter, following a previous season in which fishers caught only about 80% of the total allowable catch. Industry figures say biomass is around 10 million metric tons but juvenile fish have forced about 80 areas to close.
Juvenile-heavy catches and closed areas limit fishmeal and fish oil output, which keeps marine protein supplies tight and supports prices for feed ingredients.
