California's Energy Commission is offering grants through the Food Production Investment Program to help food processors decarbonize and ease grid strain at peak demand. The program has awarded $118 million to 56 projects since 2018, including animal feed, ethanol and rendering facilities.
Initial funding of $25 million is being deployed this fiscal year.
Energy-efficiency upgrades at feed, ethanol and rendering plants have little direct effect on feed commodity prices. The effect is limited to operating costs for those processors.
