A GRDC-supported project concluded in 2022 that explored food and distilling uses for Australian sorghum, which has mostly been sold as low-value animal feed. It identified opportunities in China's baijiu market, and new commercial partners are emerging.
If Australian sorghum moves into higher-value food and baijiu uses, feed-grade supply could tighten over time, but the effect is long-term and small at present.
