Nebraska's ethanol plants use over 700 million bushels of corn a year and produce about 5.2 million tons of distillers grains. A University of Illinois study finds ethanol output per bushel rose from about 2.80 in late 2014 to near 3.00 in mid-2019, then leveled off.
Rising conversion efficiency means each bushel of corn yields more ethanol and co-products, which modestly eases corn demand per gallon while supporting DDGS supply.
