The European Commission adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/1163 of 14 June 2023, authorising L-lysine monohydrochloride and L-lysine sulphate produced by a genetically modified Corynebacterium glutamicum strain as feed additives for all animal species. EFSA considers the additives safe and effective lysine sources, with a maximum content of 10,000 mg/kg feed for lysine sulphate.
A new EU authorisation adds a lysine supply source for European feed makers, which could modestly ease EU lysine availability and price pressure over time.
