Eight companies and several individuals have been charged in New Zealand over allegedly exporting about NZ$29 million of tainted tallow and meat and bone meal. The charges allege unapproved ingredients such as used cooking oil or chicken fat were mixed in to enhance quality, with false export certificates used between 2019 and 2020.
Fraud cases affecting rendered fats and meat and bone meal can erode buyer confidence in New Zealand tallow and MBM export certification, potentially tightening supply of compliant product and supporting prices for certified feed-grade fats.
