SCB FM says the Thai baht's recent volatility reflects the dollar's direction on Fed hike expectations, a weaker yuan from China's slowing economy, and political factors affecting capital flows. It expects the baht to strengthen to 33.35-33.85 per dollar if a government is formed quickly, but weaken rapidly if formation is delayed or protests occur.
A stronger baht lowers the local-currency cost of dollar-priced feed imports into Thailand, while political stalls push the other way. The effect on global feed prices is small.
