USDA's Economic Research Service reports wholesale egg prices have fallen sharply from 2022 record highs as the laying flock recovers from avian flu losses. The average price was $1.23 per dozen in the week ending June 30, 2023, about 77% below the 2022 peak, and inventories were about 24% above the 2022 low.
Rebuilt egg-laying flocks and higher inventories mean ample supply and lower egg prices, while summer demand is expected to stay flat, so limited price swings are likely. For feed buyers, lower layer flock prices reduce the pull on layer feed demand.
