Bank Indonesia intervened in spot and domestic non-deliverable forward markets to curb volatility after the rupiah fell 0.8% to 15,325 per dollar, its weakest level since March. A central bank official said the aim was to ensure a balance of supply and demand.
The intervention came on a Monday.
Intervention to defend the rupiah signals pressure on Indonesia's currency, which raises the local cost of dollar-priced grain and meal imports. The move is mainly a currency-market development with limited direct effect on feed prices.
