Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Kansas City published their 2023-24 grain transportation plans as the crop year began on August 1. CN plans up to 744 thousand tonnes of bulk grain per week outside winter, unchanged from last year, and CPKC plans 685 thousand tonnes per week when the Port of Thunder Bay is open.
Annual capacity is about 36 million tonnes for CN and 33 million for CPKC.
Stable rail capacity commitments suggest no new bottleneck for Canadian grain movement this season, so the impact on feed grain prices is limited.
After 163 past neutral logistics events, Wheat (SRW) moved a median +0.1% over 5 sessions (53% higher; middle half -1.3% to +1.1%), and -0.3% over 20.
