Protein Industries Canada program manager Lisa Campbell told the International Rapeseed Congress in Sydney about a project involving Corteva, Bunge and Botaneco to develop a canola meal with a protein profile closer to soymeal. The initiative aims primarily to displace imported soymeal in poultry and pig rations in Canada.
If canola meal can match soymeal's protein, Canadian feed formulators could substitute domestic canola meal for imported soymeal, modestly bearish soymeal demand and supportive for canola meal, though the project is still years from commercial scale.
