Peru's new Minister of Production, Ana María Choquehuanca, said her administration will prioritize credit facilities for fishermen affected by the cancelled anchovy season. The credits would be offered at preferential rates through the Impulso MYPErú program.
The minister was sworn in on September 6.
Financial support for fishermen may help keep vessels operating and sustain anchovy catch capacity, which limits how far fishmeal supply falls. The effect on prices is modest and depends on how fast the credits are deployed.
