Tyson Foods has formed a joint venture with Netherlands-based Protix to build an insect ingredient plant in the continental US, with operations expected to ramp up by the end of 2025. Munich-based FarmInsect received €8 million in Series A funding for R&D and a new production facility, and Scotland's Beta Bugs secured about €2 million to scale black soldier fly production.
These investments expand alternative protein capacity for feed, which could gradually reduce long-term demand for fishmeal and soymeal, but the plants are not yet operating and their near-term price effect is negligible.
