Sri Lankan companies plan to produce Single Super Phosphate locally using Eppawala rock phosphate, as a substitute for imported TSP. Sri Lanka has had trouble sourcing phosphate fertilizer because of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Its annual TSP import bill is about $36 million, and the country needs roughly 15,000 metric tons of TSP.
The small volume is unlikely to move global prices, but it reflects conflict-driven supply disruption and continued shifts away from imported phosphate.
