Capital outflows from China reached $75 billion in September, the largest monthly figure since 2016, according to Goldman Sachs' preferred gauge of FX flows. The yuan has fallen more than 5.5% against the dollar this year amid a weak economy and a widening yield gap with the US.
Heavy capital outflows add depreciation pressure on the yuan, which makes dollar-priced Chinese imports of feed ingredients more expensive. Persistent weakness could also dampen Chinese demand for imported commodities.
After 398 past bullish macro events, Chinese Yuan (CNY per USD) moved a median +0.0% over 5 sessions (56% higher; middle half -0.3% to +0.5%), and +0.0% over 20.
