According to IFFO data cited by Agnavigator, cumulative fishmeal production by key producers fell 28% in the first eight months of 2023. The drop is mainly due to a 70% decline in Peru, where El Niño led to cancellation of the first anchovy season.
Chile was the only country with higher output, and fish oil output fell 24%.
The shortfall in Peruvian anchovy catches leaves fishmeal and fish oil supply tight, which supports higher prices for feed ingredients.
