Feed barley prices in Canada have drifted lower despite limited 2023-24 supply, which Agriculture Canada puts at 8.75 million tonnes, down 17 percent. Prices have fallen about $100 per tonne this year as substitutes gain share, Chinese demand wanes after Australian barley tariffs were removed, and grains prices weaken.
Weaker Chinese export demand and cheaper substitutes limit barley's upside, so prices can fall even with a smaller crop.
