The rupiah closed higher on Friday December 15 at Rp 15,493 per dollar, supported by Indonesia's November trade surplus of $2.41 billion, the 43rd consecutive monthly surplus. Exports fell 8.56% year on year to $22 billion while imports rose 3.29% to $19.59 billion.
The move also reflected a weaker dollar after dovish comments from Fed Chair Powell and projections for three rate cuts in 2024.
A weaker dollar and a steady Indonesian trade surplus support the rupiah, which lowers the local-currency cost of imported feed ingredients. The export decline signals softer domestic trade activity but does not move feed prices directly.
