Japan's Nikkei 225 closed more than 1% higher on December 19 after the BOJ left its negative interest rate policy unchanged at its final meeting of the year. The yen weakened 0.6% to 143.70 per dollar after the decision.
The BOJ warned of extremely high uncertainty and said core inflation would stay above 2% through fiscal 2024.
Analysts expect the BOJ to end negative rates around April 2024, so a yen move on that timing would affect Japan's dollar-priced feed import costs, with minimal direct impact on grain prices.
