Cal-Maine Foods temporarily halted production at a Kansas facility after some of its flock tested positive for avian flu. The company has lost about 684,000 laying hens, roughly 1.6% of its total flock.
Avian flu has wiped out many birds across the US since the outbreak began.
Lost layers reduce egg supply and can lift egg prices, but the bird count is small relative to feed demand, so the effect on feed grain and meal prices is limited.
