Bulgarian sunflower area fell 6% in 2023, with yields down 18% and harvest down 23%. Winter rapeseed area is also down 31%, and drought is again a constraint.
Sunflower area for 2024 is expected to rise because of stronger crusher demand and lower seed imports.
A smaller 2023 harvest and drought-limited rapeseed planting tighten regional oilseed supply and support meal prices. Expected area growth for 2024 would be a partial offset later in the year.
