Peru's industrial anchovy fleet closed its second season on 12 January with roughly 75% of the 1.682 million ton quota caught. The first 2023 season was cancelled, costing an estimated USD 1.4 billion in lost revenue, and IFFO data show global fishmeal output down 16% for the first 11 months of 2023.
Unfilled anchovy quotas reduce fishmeal and fish oil availability, supporting fishmeal prices that feed buyers pay for high-protein diets.
