Peru's Ministry of Production closed the second 2024 anchovy season on January 23 after catches reached about 2.42 million MT, or 96.4% of the 2.51 million MT quota in the North-Central Zone. The closure followed IMARPE studies showing evident reproductive activity, so the season was ended to protect spawning.
Catches near the full quota add to fishmeal and fish oil supply during a year of sharply reduced Peruvian output, which supports fishmeal prices and firms up the feed protein complex.
