A study in Nature Food finds potassium is being removed from agricultural soils faster than it is replaced in many regions. It estimates about 20% of global agricultural soils face severe potassium deficiency, with the shortfall highest in South-East Asia at 44%.
Long-term potassium depletion could raise future fertilizer demand and support potash use, but the study is research with no immediate supply or price effect.
