CME live and feeder cattle futures rose sharply on Thursday, supported by strong direct cash trade and USDA cattle inventory data. Live cattle traded in the $178-179 range in parts of Texas and Kansas, and feeder steers at Hub City sold at $271-293.
Boxed beef Choice rose to $294.94.
Higher cash cattle prices and firm boxed beef support feeder and live cattle values, which keeps feedlot margins tight and feed demand steady.
