Peru's research vessels have started an acoustic survey of the north-central anchovy stock, running from the shore out to 100 nautical miles. Results will feed into IMARPE's report and the Ministry of Production's quota decisions for the first 2024 season.
The survey was announced around February 20-21, 2024.
The stock assessment determines the first-season anchovy quota, which drives fishmeal output and prices. Until results are published, the market will trade on expectations, so this is a background driver rather than an immediate price shock.
