Protein Industries Canada announced a $31 million investment, with $13.4 million from the government and the rest from partners Corteva, Botaneco, Bunge, Rainfed Foods and Northeast Nutrition, to commercialize high-protein canola meal. The project targets feed use for non-ruminants, including farmed fish, and aims to raise demand for Canadian canola and sunflower protein.
Developing higher-protein canola meal could expand its demand in aquafeed and other feed markets, modestly supporting canola meal values relative to soybean meal. The effect on prices is long-term and limited near term.
