Corteva and partners are developing a higher-protein canola hybrid aimed at the monogastric feed market, backed by a C$31 million investment. Canola meal currently sells at up to a 20% discount to soybean meal because of its lower protein and higher fibre.
If high-protein canola closes the protein gap, it could expand canola meal's competition with soybean meal, but the effect on prices is years away and remains speculative.
