Peru's first north-central anchovy season has passed 2 million metric tons of catch in its first 40 days, about 82% of the 2.475 million-ton quota. Former IMARPE director Luis Icochea said the industrial fleet will likely reach full quota in the coming days.
He noted that the fleet takes less than 25% of observable biomass.
Rapid progress toward full quota means fishmeal and fish oil supply will reach the market sooner, which pressures prices lower in the near term. Feed buyers should expect more marine ingredient availability.
